  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    WHAT GUARDIOLA SAID

Speaking ahead of City's Premier League clash with Aston Villa, Guardiola said: "We're not a big fan of that (window) but the circumstances of this season have been special. We've spoken about doing something. In winter, it's if we really need it, or if we can really find something. It is not easy to do. Clubs don't want to sell and players are so expensive. It depends on the market, we'll see."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

City's top target is reportedly a natural No. 6 to replace Rodri, who has been sidelined with a season-ending ACL injury. While Mateo Kovacic has filled the role admirably, the lack of depth in defensive midfield has been evident, especially when Kovacic himself has been unavailable. According to Bruno Guimarães of Newcastle United and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad are among the names linked to the club as potential solutions. However, contradicts the report and insists that neither Guimaraes nor Zubimendi are on the radar.

In addition to midfield, City's defence remains an area of concern. The team has conceded 23 goals in just 16 Premier League matches – a concerning stat for a side challenging for the top honour. A full-back acquisition is seen as critical to shoring up their leaky defence. The forward line is another focus, with City seeking additional firepower to complement Erling Haaland and their attacking options.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER CITY?

City’s struggles have been stark. The reigning Premier League champions have managed only one win in their last 11 matches across all competitions. Their domestic form has faltered, leaving them winless in three consecutive Premier League fixtures. As they prepare to face Aston Villa, Guardiola will aim to reverse this troubling trend and get their campaign back on track.
